HONOR has announced a new software update for the HONOR Magic8 Pro that will introduce AI Voice Cloning Detection to help counter a new type of scam tactic called βsilent callβ that begins to emerge in Malaysia. The update, scheduled for release in late December 2025, is designed to help users identify calls that may involve cloned or synthesized voices, a tactic increasingly associated with financial scams.
AI Voice Cloning Detection
Before discussing the AI Voice Cloning Detection feature, letβs understand how βsilent callβ scams work. Usually, upon picking up the call from the scammer, a user will encounter brief periods of silence from the caller, which usually prompts them to speak up to see if the caller is responding. A simple βhello?β is all scammers needed to siphon the victimβs voice for AI deepfakes, which can then be used against said userβs families or acquaintances to trick them.

To combat this, HONORβs new feature βanalyzes calls to detect cloned or synthesized voices,β and alerts users of anomalies if the caller is identified as such (the smartphone UI will inform users of risks involved if they intend to proceed with the call). Prior to this, HONOR has already given its new Magic8 Pro a similar feature called AI Deepfake Detection designed for video calls, which now gets an upgrade to support scanning up to eight people at the same time.
Alongside those features, the software update will also include AI Scam Number Detection, though this one is a fairly common feature in some of the call protection apps (i.e. Whoscall) where incoming calls are checked for any matches in known databases. Ideally, this acts as the first line of defense, which prevent scammers from reaching the user in the first place.
Pokdepinion: Ideally this should be a standard feature in all smartphones, but itβs a start.
