Local Toyota distributor UMW Toyota Motor has launched the new Toyota Yaris Cross in Malaysia, which takes on the B-segment (subcompact crossover) SUV market with both internal combustion engine (ICE) and hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) variants.

The ICE variant is powered by Toyotaβs 2NR-VE engine with 106hp at 6,000RPM paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), while the hybrid variant combines the 2NR-VEX engine with an electric motor delivering a total system output of 109hp at 5,500RPM (with a fuel economy of 27.8-33.3km/L) through Toyotaβs eCVT transmission. Toyota said the hybrid system allows electric-only mode during low-speed driving conditions to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

The lithium-ion battery is positioned beneath the rear seats to preserve cargo space, of which the Yaris Crossβs luggage compartment offers 471L of cargo capacity via a two-level deck board and underfloor storage space. Exterior highlights include 18-inch alloy wheels, while inside youβll find the cabin includes soft-touch materials, satin-plated accents, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a 7-inch TFT digital instrument display.

Additional features include a 10.1-inch infotainment display with wireless smartphone connectivity, panoramic view monitor, wireless charging, rear USB-C ports and a power tailgate with kick sensor. The Yaris Cross is also equipped with Toyota Safety Sense package that include lane and traffic monitoring systems, Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
The Toyota Yaris Cross ICE variant is priced from RM99,900, while the hybrid variant starts from RM109,900; UMW Toyota Motor says all models will be locally assembled at its manufacturing facility in Bukit Raja. Both variants are now available for booking at authorized Toyota dealerships nationwide.
Pokdepinion: Doesnβt quite look like the Yaris in the front despite sharing similar names to its hatchback counterpart.
