Chinese automaker GWM announced that the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV recorded more than 800 bookings in Malaysia within its first week of availability following its official launch on 29 January 2026 in Kuala Lumpur. This new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) is marketed as Malaysiaβs first locally-assembled (CKD) luxury βnew energyβ MPV.

The WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV is powered by GWMβs βHi4β dual-motor plug-in hybrid system, offering an electric-only driving range of up to 170 kilometers and a combined total range of more than 1,000 kilometers, which covers short-term commute in cities with zero emissions, while also capable of doing long-distance travel when the 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder internal combustion engine is introduced into the equation.
According to its spec sheet, the 1.5L turbo four alone can produce 150 PS (148 hp) at 5,500 RPM and a peak torque of 240 Nm with as low as 1,800 RPM, all of which is transmitted via a 4-speed gearbox; meanwhile, the two electric motors (one front, one rear) are split into 80 / 130 kW (107 / 174 hp) units supplied via a 44.2 kWh battery pack. All told, the vehicle can offers 442 PS (436 hp), along with a meaty 642 Nm torque at disposal to deliver a 0-100km/h time of 5.7 seconds.
Other features of this 7-seater MPV include up to 1,725 liters of luggage space (or 233 liters when all seven occupants are seated), 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, 14.6-inch infotainment screen, 11 USB ports, built-in 12.5L refrigerator, Level 2 ADAS driver assistance, and a 3.3-kilowatt vehicle-to-load (V2L) external power supply capable of handling a single high-power-draw appliance, or several low-power ones. It is currently priced at RM269,800.
