So how do you perform a sanity check if there’s something fishy right in front of your eyes? In the case of Android’s Circle to Search, simply long-press the home button or navigation bar and circle suspicious text or images to proceed. iOS users, meanwhile, can use Google Lens app (applicable to Android users as well) to snap a screenshot or point the camera towards the content for the same effect.

In both cases, the system evaluates the content using AI and information from the web to determine whether it shows common indicators of scam activity, in the form of texts, unauthorized charges, or suspicious offers. Once analyzed, users are shown an AI overview that provide information on indications of potential risk, along with guidance and suggested actions.

The new scam detection capabilities are available globally through Circle to Search and Google Lens, though Google notes that this is only activated when its detection systems have β€œhigh confidence in the quality of the response,” to avoid creating too many false positives.
