Google To Introduce Autocorrect & Improved Autocomplete In Chrome URLs
If you’re one of those people who type website URLs on Google Chrome’s address bar, you probably made typos at one point and ended up in a completely wrong website. Good news – the update aims to solve this by introducing autocorrect, among other things.
In the blog post, Google says it’s introducing five minor feature additions to Chrome’s address bar to improve the browsing experience. The first feature is smarter autocomplete – previously, you must type the first word of the website or title to get the results (say, ‘google.com’ when accessing Google Flights). Now, you can type ‘flights’ to the same effect.
As for typos, the autocorrect will kick in and seamlessly fix that by providing you the results for the correct spelling: in this case ‘youutube’ will be automatically corrected as ‘youtube’ in the search results. Other improvements include bookmark search, popular websites suggestions (similar to Safari), and improved visual layout for better legibility. The results will also start populating as soon as user types it, which should speed things up.
These updates should be live now as no client-side update is required, though do note that some features are limited to desktop versions only.
