MSI Motherboard Now Gains Support For 256GB Of RAM On Consumer Motherboards

Owners of select MSI motherboards will soon get yet another memory-related upgrade, increasing the maximum supported DDR5 RAM capacity to a whopping 256GB of memory capacity. This announcement came in time as memory vendor Kingston has officially begun producing 64GB DDR5 modules. The company previously first announced the 192GB upgrade alongside the launch of then-new 24/48GB modules.

The module in question is the new Kingston FURY Renegade DDR5 RAM, which was built on Micron’s new 1ß (1-beta) process for even higher density per DRAM chip, thus making the theoretical maximum supported RAM on a typical 4-slot system capable of running on 256GB of DDR5 memory.

“This accomplishment underscores the strong collaboration between MSI and leading memory brands to achieve enhanced performance and remarkable milestones. The partnered memory for this achievement is Kingston FURY Renegade DDR5 memory, offering an impressive 64GB capacity per module. Built on Micron’s industry-leading 1β (1-beta) technology, enables new capacities not seen before for dual channel PCs,” MSI stated in the news release.

The PC maker has demonstrated a system featuring AMD Ryzen 9 7900X on the MSI PRO X670-P WIFI motherboard, though the company has yet to specify any release schedule for associated BIOS updates to enable new memory support. The company ends the news release stating it is “diligently working towards full support for the enhanced memory capacity of 256GB.”

Pokdepinion: A system with 128GB of RAM without sacrificing memory clockspeeds with a 4-slot layout due to IMC limitations sounds pretty enticing to me.
