MSI’s Intel Motherboards Will Now Support Up to 192GB of RAM

DRAM manufacturers has started manufacturing 24GB and 48GB DDR5 modules which pushes the maximum capacity support.

MSI announced in a blog post that all of their consumer Intel 600 and 700 series motherboards will now support up to 192GB of DDR5 RAM, with no updates necessary to facilitate the upgrade. We haven’t seen announcements from other OEMs so far at this writing, but it’s expected that others will follow shortly.

Oddly enough, as we looked through the specs of Intel CPUs, the company’s ARK database still clearly labels maximum RAM support at 128GB – essentially 4x 32GB modules. That applies to even the latest Core i9-13900K – so this may be an oversight on Intel’s part.

So far, Micron is leading the 24GB/48GB DDR5 module manufacturing progress – with competitor SK Hynix followed with at least sampling to OEMs in last December. It’ll take a while for 24GB modules to start appearing in the markets, but it may not gain much market share as users may opt to stay at 2x16GB (32GB) pairing – as we’re still far from saturating it in games.

Pokdepinion: Pretty odd sizes actually, and I think this might stay as a niche option since we’re far from filling up 32GB in DDR5 systems anyway. (Single-stick 24GB is a bad idea, always use dual-channel when possible.)
