Besides new MacBooks, Apple is also bringing two new monitors in the form of a newly-updated Studio Display, and the all-new Studio Display XDR (which replaces the now 6-years-old Pro Display XDR). Both are 27-inch 5K (5120 x 2880) monitors, though are intended for different audiences β the former is geared towards general use, while the latter is for professional creative work.
New Apple Studio Display

The updated Studio Display is a minor refresh over the 2022 model, which retains the same 27-inch 5K form factor, but comes with increased brightness to 600 nits. The two design quirks of the monitor remain: itβs still a 60Hz panel (we really could do with 120Hz these days), and more infamously, the power cable is integrated into the body, so be doubly sure to not trip the cable if youβre plugging it into suboptimal spots.
Outside of the display, the monitor gets a new 12MP Center Stage camera, a three-microphone array, and a six-speaker sound system comprising four force-cancelling woofers and two tweeters for 30% deeper bass. The I/O is also updated to feature the latest Thunderbolt 5 protocol as well (and cable comes included), of which there are two ports behind the monitor, while the other two are regular 10Gbps USB-C ports. Buyers can go for optional nano-texture glass for reduced glare, along with optional tilt and height-adjustable stand, or a VESA mount adapter.
Apple Studio Display XDR

The new Apple Studio Display XDR, meanwhile, replaces the old Pro Display XDR with improved specs, though it has shrunk in size as opposed to the 32-inch 6K unit of old. Now a 27-inch 5K Retina XDR display β still employing mini-LED backlight for illumination β it comes with 2,304 local dimming zones that enables up to 1000 nits of sustained SDR brightness and 2000 nits of peak HDR brightness (25% brighter than the predecessorβs 1600 nits), with a contrast ratio of up to 1,000,000:1. Aside from full Display P3 and Adobe RGB color gamut coverage, itβs also capable of covering 80% of Rec. 2020 coverage for HDR video workflows.
A big upgrade comes in the form of 120Hz refresh rate with Adaptive Sync / VRR support between 47-120Hz to improve motion handling and reduce display latency. Like the aforementioned Studio Display, it also includes the same 12MP Center Stage camera, three-microphone array and six-speaker audio, and a pair of Thunderbolt 5 ports is present, with the secondary (downstream) port dedicated for daisy-chaining displays or connecting accessories, along with two additional 10Gbps USB-C ports.
Pre-orders for Studio Display and Studio Display XDR begin on 9 March, with prices starting at RM6,499 and RM13,499, respectively.
Pokdepinion: I will say, the current Studio Display has already got an excellent pair of speakers β so I wonder how much the updated model will improve.
