Xbox One X Sells Poorly in Japan

Recently, we wrote about how the Xbox One X was a strong sales performer in the UK, outselling the PS4 Pro among many other things. Well, in Japan however, it did quite poorly, thanks to the weekly Media Create drop.
Here is the hardware sales chart related to the period between November 6th and November 12th.
Hardware Sales
- Switch:Β 79, 958
- PS4: 20,021
- New 2DS XL: 10, 323
- New 3 DS XL: 7,296
- PS4 Pro: 6,037
- PS Vita: 3,210
- 2DS: 1,484
- Xbox One X: 1,344
- New 3DS: 266
- Xbox One: 121
- PS3: 41
- Wii U: 36
It has been said that Microsoft actually shipped a very limited number of units, and this is why the sales number is way lower than anything else in the list for Japan. It was also mentioned that retailers in Japan did not carry it on the first day of its launch, which certainly made the sales figure even worse for the console.
At this point, though, we can probably safely say that the promise of massive power (at least for a console) did not particularly tempt Japanese gamers.
On a side note, Media Create also shared the top games being sold there in Japan, which you can take a look just below here:

The Switch keeps doing great, pulled byΒ Super Mario Odyssey, that returns to the top of the chart, taking overΒ Call of Duty: WWII, that still has a very solid second week for first-person-shooter in Japan.
At this point, itβll be really interesting to see which one, betweenΒ Super Mario OdysseyΒ andΒ Splatoon 2Β will stand as the best-selling Switch game after the Holiday shopping season. All bets are on.
Need for Speed PaybackΒ debuts without much energy, but the real flop remains the launch of Sonic Forces, that barely passes 10,000 copies between the PlayStation 4 and Switch.
Itβs no surprise that the Xbox One X isnβt doing well given the Japanese audience have always leaned more towards Sony and Nintendo products, for obvious reasons. Itβs interesting to know that even hardware strength will not sway the people away from the homegrown brands.

Pokdepinion: Well, if you think about it, the Xbox One in itself isnβt doing well in Malaysia, although most likely better than in Japan. Heck, the Xbox 360 did better. Perhaps Microsoft will need to employ some new strategies to conquer the markets outside of US and UK.
