Verizon gets exclusive ASUS ZenFone V; a ZenFone 3 Deluxe rehashed with a glass back
The ZenFone 3 Deluxe was released with a full aluminium unibody, which may have not been to everybodyβs tastes. We have seen the ASUS ZenFone V popup in a leak previously, placing it alongside the ASUS ZenFone 4 seriesΒ which was just recently launched. However it shares more in common with the previous generation of ASUS devices than the latest ASUS ZenFone 4 lineup.
First of which, it features a last-gen Snapdragon 820 paired with 4GB of RAM. It also features the 23MP f/2.0 camera featured on the ZenFone 3 Deluxe, ZenFone 3 Ultra and ZenFone ARΒ with the TriTech AF technology that has been removed from the entire ZenFone 4 range save for the ZenFone 4 Pro. The 4-axis- 4-stop OIS system and RGB sensor is also carried over directly from the ZenFone 3 Deluxe.
It does share the location of the fingerprint sensor with the newer ZenFones though, having it on the front fascia instead. The ZenFone V is designed to appeal to those who prefer smaller phones, with a 5.2β³ 1080p AMOLED display. It also packs a decent 3000 mAh battery, unlike the 5.2β³ variant of the ZenFone 3 that came with a tiny 2650 mAh battery.
Sadly we wonβt ever get to see this device hit our shores, with it being an Verizon exclusive and even if you imported it, you will suffer from the lack of support for our LTE bands.
Pokdepinion: Isnβt launching a smartphone now with the Snapdragon 820 a little late? But on the other hand, if itβs priced right, I donβt see why not as the Snapdragon 820 will still be a very respectable SoC for some time.
