Valve / Steam Has Added LGBTQ+ Tag and Hub Page

The tag system has been a very important part of Steam as it allows gamers to find titles related to the tags. ItβsΒ Itβs not something that anyone can simply add however as Valve / Steam will have to approve it themselves. Well, recently, they have approved and officially added the LGBTQ+ tag on their platform.
The change to the system can be credited to an independent developer named Yitz, creator of hand-drawn RPGΒ NepentheΒ and upcoming βvisual poemβΒ To The Dark Tower, after he brought up the issue on the Steam developer forums. Heβd realized an LGBTQ+ tag would make perfect sense forΒ To The Dark Tower, only to find that there wasnβt one.
When he contacted Steam, the email they sent back stated: βIf you have something in mind that isnβt already a public tag, please let us know in the Steamworks Discussions.β He soon started a thread there and it triggered a huge discussion with plenty of mixed feedback, although plenty were in support of the tag and its importance to devs regardless of how it could be misused. Not long after, a Valve employee responded to Yitzβs Steamworks thread and informed him that Valve had added βLGBTQ+β as a globally-approved tag, along with aΒ brand new hub page.
While there still isnβt much available under the label, itβs only a matter of time for it to be populated with a healthy amount. Indie developers can have their own games classified under the LGBTQ+ tag without worries anymore and simultaneously increase visibility of their work on the platform.
