Samsung introduces ISOCELL image sensor brand; four sub-brands to cover every smartphone camera niche out there
Samsungβs new image sensor brand, ISOCELL, takes its name from the Korean giantβs ISOCELL technology. ISOCELL technology separates each pixel with barrier to reduce color crosstalk among pixels, allowing for better color fidelity and better image quality even with smaller sensors.
Samsung ISOCELL will offer four sub-brands, each to satisfy specific niches:
- ISOCELL BrightΒ sensors are designed for enhanced low light performance, so we can safely assume that these sensors will be the biggest sensors in the line up
- ISOCELL FastΒ sensors promise to deliver snappy autofocus in all lighting conditions. Given their experience at Dual Pixel AF technology, this could be a very interesting series
- ISOCELL SlimΒ sensors will feature the smallest pixelsΒ (0.9Β΅m-1Β΅m) for the slimmest devices without sacrificing image quality
- ISOCELL DualΒ sensors will be sensors designed to be matched in various combinations, to satisfy the marketβs dual camera trend
Expect the ISOCELL branding to feature more prominently on Samsung devices as Ben Hur, VP of System LSI marketing at Samsung Electronics said, βWe expect the ISOCELL brand to help consumers easily acknowledge and confide in camera performance as well as overall quality of the device.β
Pokdepinion: These naming convention will definitely make it easier to know what kind of sensor is in your device, rather than Sonyβs cryptic numbering which doesnβt really make sense most of the time.
