PlayStation 4 System Update 5.50 Released

If you were planning on playing online games on your PlayStation 4 today and you donβt keep your console in rest mode, then you may have to wait a little bit. In a random surprise, Sony Interactive Entertainment released System Software Version 5.50 for its latest console, early this morning.
Version 5.50 clocks in at a couple hundred megabytes and should automatically start downloading as soon as you start up your PlayStation 4. Of course, if you keep your console in rest mode than it should already be downloaded.
For those that donβt know, while 5.50 is not a major update, it does add a ton of new features like a family manager to monitor a userβs playtime, a new PlayStation Plus tab, the ability to make wallpapers, cover images, etc. from a USB storage device, and a new Supersampling mode for PS4 Pro users, which essentially improves image quality even when on a lower resolution TV.
One small feature that was not originally detailed in the two initial reveals, was a brand new PlayStation VR icon next to gameβs that support it on both the main menu and your library, which means you wonβt have to guess as to what gameβs utilize it anymore.
Update 5.50 wasΒ originally teased in JanuaryΒ after Sony Interactive Entertainment put out a notice that they were looking for beta testers. Soon after, more and more details on System Update 5.50 became available. Itβs not a major update so you donβt have to worry about some sudden drastic changes.
If your PS4 doesnβt have the System Update 5.50 available, just give it a bit more time. It will pop up in your PS4βs notifications sooner or later.
Pokdepinion: In case some of the changes ended up being a bit confusing for some of you, just take note of these and youβll be fine. To those with PS4 Pro consoles, might as well take advantage of Supersampling when you can so you can have a better gaming experience..
