Overwatch Workshop Mode Letβs You Create Your Own Custom Game Modes
In a new developer update video, Overwatch Game Director Jeff Kaplan has revealed the addition of the Overwatch Workshop mode. This mode will let players use their creative thinking and some programming to create new custom game modes.
Putting the tools of mode creation in the playerβs hands, the Overwatch Workshop mode helps make the game have a better lifespan in the market. Itβs not something everyone will be able to fully take advantage of as Jeff Kaplan noted that it is a βpower userβ feature. If youΒ already have some idea of programming and game logic, youβre likely going to get more out of this initiative. However, the team is trying to make it as accessible as possible.
Kaplan gave a few examples of modes theΒ BlizzardΒ team has already cooked up while testing the feature. Molten Floor sees your hero light on fire when theyβre on the ground. The other mode has every player start as the same character and, after a set amount of time, everyone switches to a new character.
There is a lot here and theΒ blog postΒ on Blizzardβs site is very lengthy. Kaplan also talked about how the Workshop Inspector helps you debug your script and mentioned how easy it will be for users to share their modes. The Overwatch Workshop is currently testing on the Public Test Realm (PTR). After the PTR phase is finished, the Workshop will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Battle.net.
Pokdepinion: Remember, DotA was created as a custom map in Warcraft III. This might have the potential of creating something amazing on its own.
