The mystery that has been bugging gamers for a while now has finally been solved. Super Mario Odyssey’s producer, Yoshiaki Koizumi, has confirmed whether Toad is wearing a hat or if that is actually his head.

The age-old question that has perched itself in the back of psyches everywhere has finally been answered; Toad’s Mushroom cap is, in fact, not a hat at all according to Super Mario Odyssey producer Yoshiaki Koizumi.

The video went on to answer several of the key questions that come up when addressing Super Mario canon such why Mario does not have a belly button, Mario’s relationship status, and of course, whether Toad’s top was a hat or not.

This video, however, seems to bring about more questions than answers:

So that, as it turns out, is actually Toad’s head, I’m going to have to leave it to all of you to figure out exactly how that works out. Maybe there’s something inside.

Does the mushroom contain a brain? If so, how protective is its casing? Are all of his essential organs contained in the cap and the rest of his body filled with plush? Perhaps a full anatomical report should be published in the near future.

The other 2 questions were dodged by Koizumi-san. The absence of Mario’s belly button, for example, was excused because the developers never thought people would care… they were wrong.

Well to be perfectly honest, I didn’t really expect that to be a topic among fans. Once I heard that people were talking so much about Mario’s belly button, it made me start to think about whether we should revisit the topic on the design side.

Last but not least, we got a response on the matter of Mario’s relationship with Peach and Pauline:

I would appreciate it if we could respect the privacy of those three at this time.

While Super Mario lore delvers will appreciate the teases given here, as they will be able to speculate even further, the huddled masses who are yearning for answers to the questions that have haunted generations of gamers may need to wait longer still to finally understand the intricate reasons for Mario’s Clark Kentian biology and the supposed love triangle at the heart of Super Mario Odyssey.

Pokdepinion: Well, with one mystery solved, it also somewhat sprung up other mysteries. Not sure if the situation is better now or before we knew about it.
