Sony Reverses Decision To Close PlayStation Store For PS3 And PS Vita
Sony has just announced that they have decided against closing the PlayStation Store for PS3 and PS Vita devices. This means that gamers can still continue to purchase their favourite games on Sony’s older gen consoles. Sony originally made the decision to shutter purchasing support for the PlayStation 3, PS Vita and PSP last month. However, now it seems that only the PlayStation Store for the PSP will shut down as planned on 2 July.
Sony: Shutting down PlayStation Store on PS3 and PS Vita was a mistake
In a recent blog post, Jim Ryan, the President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment admitted that their decision to shut down the stores on the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita was a wrong decision on their part. He also explained their decision in doing so in the blog post.
“When we initially came to the decision to end purchasing support for PS3 and PS Vita, it was born out of a number of factors, including commerce support challenges for older devices and the ability for us to focus more of our resources on newer devices where a majority of our gamers are playing on,” said Ryan. “We see now that many of you are incredibly passionate about being able to continue purchasing classic games on PS3 and PS Vita for the foreseeable future, so I’m glad we were able to find a solution to continue operations.”

Pokdepinion: I am honestly impartial to this as I have moved on from the PlayStation 3 and never owned a PS Vita myself. However, I am aware that both these consoles still have a very healthy and active fanbase hence I understand the negative response towards the news of the PlayStation Stores closing.
