Sony Details PS5 3D Audio Compatibility with Limitations for Speakers
One of the most talked about next gen gaming features is the Tempest 3D AudioTech. In a related matter, the folks over at Sony Interactive Entertainment have posted a new blog entry, detailing which headsets and games can support PS5 3D audio.
Sony Details PS5 3D Audio Compatibility with Limitations for Speakers
According to PlayStationβs own Isabelle Tomatis, most headphones will be compatible with the PlayStation 5. You can connect either by plugging it to the DualSense controller via the 3.5mm audio jack or directly to the console via USB. As far as the PS5 3D audio goes, it will not work with built-in TV speakers. However, they are planning to add that capability sometime in the future.
Headphone audio is the current gold standard for 3D Audio on PS5, as Mark Cerny mentioned in his βRoad to PS5β talk in March. Weβre also in the process of working on virtual surround sound through speakers that are built into TVs. Although TV speaker virtual surround sound wonβt be available on launch day for PS5, itβs still a feature we are extremely excited about, and our engineers are hard at work on bringing it to PS5 in the future.

For the games with PS5 3D Audio compatibility, the following is the confirmed, but not limited, list of games to support it:
- Marvelβs Spider-Man: Miles Morales
- Astroβs Playroom
- Demonβs Souls
- Sackboy: A Big Adventure
- Resident Evil Village
- Horizon Forbidden West
- Gran Turismo 7
The PlayStation 5 will be launching on 12th November 2020 in selected countries, and 19th November 2020 for the rest of the world.
Pokdepinion: Well, canβt say Iβm surprised by it. Would like to see what a future update would include in this area but weβll have to wait and see.
