Valve Sued For Taking Advantage Of Steam In Keeping High Prices For Games
It appears that Valve Inc. is on the receiving end of a lawsuit, where theyβve been allegedly to abuse Steam where they forced game developers to sell their games at the same price across all platforms.
Valve face lawsuit for controlling games price
The lawsuit was filed in the US, where it appears that the storeβs βMost Favored Nationsβ clause for developers states that βthe price of a PC game on the Steam platform will be the same price the game developers sell their PC games on other platformsβ.
For the attorneys of the case, theyβve suggested that the clause is making other platforms such as Epic Games and Microsoft Store to face a harder time to compete with Steam.
The lawsuit also states βthe Steam MFN also hinders innovation by creating an artificial barrier to entry for platforms. When a market, such as this one, is highly concentrated, a new entrant can benefit consumers by undercutting the incumbentβs prices. Aside from that, hereβs what the lawsuit claims:
The Steam MFN also hinders innovation by creating an artificial barrier to entry for platforms. When a market, such as this one, is highly concentrated, a new entrant can benefit consumers by undercutting the incumbentβs prices. The ability to provide PC games to consumers at lower prices is one way a firm or new entrant could gain market share.
It seems that the attorneys behind the lawsuit wants to disrupt the game storeβs grasp on the market to make PC game distribution as well as selling more fair towards both developers and of course, players.
Pokdepinion: Well they do have a point in hoping to make the market fair but will they succeed though? As just a gamer and consumer, itβd be interesting to see if the market to turn out fair for all. I canβt wait to see whatβs the outcome.
