DOOM Is (Officially) In Lawnmowers, So You Can Rip And Tear The Grass Until It Is Done
DOOM is a game that gamers consider eternal, but perhaps not in the way that you may expect. Itβs found its place in things like calculators, pregnancy test kits, Windows Notepad, and actual bacteria. If you can find a screen, thereβs a good chance itβll run DOOM; and if there isnβt, you wouldnβt rule out the chance it does, too.
But this time around is a bit special because itβs not some jerry-rigging from tinkerers or hobbyists; instead, itβs a thing, officially, in the lawnmowers from a Swedish power products manufacturer Husqvarna. If youβre feeling a bit murderous (to grass), the manufacturer will be releasing an update for its Automower NERA line of lawnmowers, which enables the lawnmowerβs tiny screen to play the classic DOOM.
That being said, there are a bunch of caveats. For one, itβs opt-in (for obvious reasons); secondly, only Episode 1 of the game is playable. More importantly, though, itβs a limited-time affair: the minigame will be removed via an update that is set to release in September 2024. Itβs also limited to select regions β Asian regions, unfortunately, didnβt make the list.
But hey, thereβs always the modern DOOM titles if youβre feeling like mowing down some demons. Virtually, of course.
