Samsung Mobile Head Says They Are Still Working on Dustproofing Foldables
The highly anticipated launch of Samsungβs Galaxy Z Fold5 and Flip5 brought excitement and innovation to the foldable smartphone market. Prior to their release, rumors were abound, suggesting that these new foldables would be the first to offer dust protection alongside water ingress protection. However, as it turns out, those rumors were not accurate. The new devices, like their predecessors, are only rated for water resistance.
Samsung Mobile Still Working on Dustproofing Foldables
TM Roh, Samsungβs mobile boss, has now shed light on the situation, revealing that the intention was indeed there to make the Galaxy Z Fold5 and Flip5 dustproof. The company is determined to achieve this feature for foldable smartphones, but it appears that more time and effort are needed in the development process.
Roh acknowledged the demand for dustproofing among consumers and assured that Samsung is actively working on finding a viable solution. The challenges, however, should not be underestimated. Foldable phones come with an intricate design, incorporating numerous flexible components and moving parts in the hinge, making dustproofing a complex task.
Nonetheless, Roh remains optimistic, drawing a parallel to the journey of water resistance in Samsungβs foldable devices. Initially, the companyβs foldables did not have water resistance, but with each generation, they made progress and eventually set a new standard for water protection in foldable phones. This progress gives hope that dustproofing will follow a similar trajectory.
Samsungβs commitment to innovation and addressing consumer demands has been evident in its past endeavors. Rohβs assurance that the company is actively working on dustproofing for foldables shows that they are committed to elevating the user experience and pushing the boundaries of whatβs possible with foldable smartphones.
While the Galaxy Z Fold5 and Flip5 may not have dustproofing this time around, Samsungβs dedication to improvement and innovation suggests that future generations of foldables will likely set new standards once again. As Roh puts it, βplease wait a little longer.β The wait may just be worth it as we can expect Samsung to continue refining its foldable technology to offer users even more compelling and resilient devices in the future.
Pokdepinion: Given the gap from its preceding models as well as the moving parts, I can see why itβs difficult to do that. They definitely needed to address some design issues first before they do any form of dustproofing, but the refinement in this yearβs models is certainly a good step towards that goal.
