OnePlus Open Launched – Game-changing Foldable Smartphone
OnePlus Open was recently unveiled, and the big surprise is that it’s essentially a rebranded version of the OPPO Find N3. While the name has changed, let’s explore what this device has to offer.
OnePlus Open
The OnePlus Open features a 6.3-inch AMOLED LTPO 120Hz external screen and a 7.8-inch AMOLED LTPO 120Hz foldable internal screen. These displays provide a fantastic visual experience. The device is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, 16GB of RAM LPDDR5X, 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage, and a 4800mAh battery that supports fast charging at 67W. It’s worth noting that this fast charging is done via a USB-C cable.
When it comes to photography, the device boasts a primary camera setup at the back, which includes a 48MP wide-angle lens with OIS, a 48MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 64MP telephoto lens with OIS. It offers optical zoom up to 3x, hybrid zoom up to 6x, and digital zoom up to an astonishing 120x. On the external screen, you’ll find a 32MP selfie camera, while the internal screen houses a 20MP selfie camera.
The rear camera system is optimized with Hasselblad color technology. Due to the larger sensor size, all three primary cameras are housed within a significant camera bump. The only notable difference from the Find N3 is that OnePlus Open features an IPX4 water-resistant rating, a feature not found in the OPPO device.
OnePlus Open supports Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio, providing an immersive multimedia experience. A dedicated mute switch, alert slider for selecting ring or vibrate mode, and an integrated fingerprint scanner on the power button are among its notable features. The device runs on OxygenOS 13, based on Android 13, with OnePlus committing to four Android updates and five years of security patches for the OnePlus Open.
The device is available in two striking colors: Emerald Dusk and Voyager Black. The price tag for the OnePlus Open is €1,799 / £1,599 / ₹139,999, which roughly translates to about RM8,000 to RM9,000. Comparing to the OPPO Find N3, that was sold for RM7999 in Malaysia.
Pokdepinion: This is the most interesting foldable smartphone ever launched for me so far, at least for this specific type of form factor. It looks and functions like a regular Android smartphone when folded, unfolds to a more tablet-like display, and it doesn’t feel like you’re making any sacrifice jumping into a fold. I’m hoping we get to try it ourselves to see how reliable the software is as that’s the key factor in ensuring its success.
