Here's How The Nothing Phone (2a) Looks Up Close

Over at MWC Barcelona, Nothing has officially revealed the design of its upcoming Phone (2a) smartphone. The phone β€œembodies the first-ever internal smartphone design concept that was created a few months after Nothing launched in 2020,” according to the company.

Given that Nothing has made a name for itself with its unique β€œGlyph” interface design, it’s no surprise to see the strips of LEDs returning to the brand’s new budget-focused model. Another standout of this design is the β€œeyes”, a small camera bump (by today’s standards) that sits in the center of the phone surrounded by the NFC coil. Rounded corners is the theme here, as the company puts it: β€œThis gives a coherent and softer look and feel to the device.”

The new look extends beyond cosmetic purposes – Nothing says the Phone (2a) features the industry-first 90Β° unibody cover wrapping around the edges that provides β€œa notable improvement on drop test results.” The centered camera bump also helps keep the phone stable when laid flat, as many smartphones often rattle around due to asymmetrical camera bumps that have become ever-prominent in modern smartphone designs.Β

At the bottom half of the Phone (2a), here’s how it’s described: β€œNothing created a sense of asymmetrical balance where the lower part of Phone (2a) is purposefully designed to disrupt the flow of the top. The battery cover was designed drawing inspiration from Massimo Vignelli’s New York subway map.” If you’re not sure what that exactly means, the device is available on the show floor so you can see it up close.

More details will be revealed on March 5, 7:30PM MYT during the upcoming β€œFresh Eyes” event on Nothing’s website.

Pokdepinion: A very unique look, that’s for sure.
