Xbox CEO Hints Handheld Plans: βWe Should Have A Handheld, Tooβ
While PC gaming handhelds are solidly gaining steam (pun not intended), the reaction from console makers β both Microsoftβs Xbox and Sonyβs PlayStation β has been relatively slow. Sony did launch a handheld called PlayStation Portal, but itβs an online-only device that wirelessly tethers to the main PlayStation 5 console. Meanwhile at Xbox, hints of the company intending to launch a gaming handheld has been scarce β until now.
βWe Should Have A (Xbox) Handheld, Tooβ
IGN interviewed Xbox CEO Phil Spencer on the rumors of a new Xbox handheld, to which he gave a statement that is all but a direct confirmation:
βI think we should have a handheld, too [β¦] You have to have Sarah Bond (president of Xbox) which is awesome β but like, the future for us in hardware is pretty awesome, and the work that the team is doing around different form factors, different ways to play β Iβm incredibly excited about.β
Adding further, Spencer has also hinted that the Xbox handheld will have similar capabilities like ROG Ally, Steam Deck, and Legion Go β that is to say, it will support offline play. βI think being able to play games locally is really important,β he added. With the strategy adopted by Microsoft today where it embraces all platforms for its games (some of the exclusives are heading to PS5 as we speak), itβs safe to assume the handheld will be a standalone device, unlike PlayStation Portal.
While the interview is conducted after the games showcase β which includes blockbuster titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and more, Spencer assures the time will come to talk about the hardware. βToday was about the games [β¦] but we will have a time to come out and talk more about platform.β

Pokdepinion: I wonder if Sony would respond with locally-capable handheld.
