RODE has announced the new RODECaster Video Core control console for video production, podcasting and live streaming workflows with a more simplified feature set and a lower price tag to match. Granted, you do lose hardware-based controls this way, but the functions are not gone entirely; instead, the RODECaster app will be solely responsible for running the show.
RODECaster Video Core

Despite the lack of buttons, the RODECaster Video Core can still handle up to four video sources (3x HDMI-in, 1x HDMI-out), a pair of both the 3.5mm and XLR ports for audio, four USB-C ports (excluding a fifth one for powering the console), and an Ethernet port for connecting cameras. An octa-core processor takes care of processing all of the signals, plus all the video and audio processing tasks.
The RODECaster app is essential for this consoleβs functionality, where users can access features like scene configuration, graphic overlays, media playback and audio mixing. The device can also record video directly to an external SSD connected via USB or output video to a computer using UVC. Thereβs some level of automation like switching between video sources based on audio input to reduce the productionβs workload, and livestreams can be set up to connect directly to the usual platforms (YouTube, Twitch, etc).

While thereβs no local pricing announced yet, the US MSRP is listed at $599, which converts to RM2,352. Thatβs pretty affordable all things considered, although youβll have to wait for some time before itβs available given that it is only open to pre-orders as of this writing (and youβll likely need to rely on local distributors to get one here in Malaysia).
Pokdepinion: Pretty decent price for rookie productions to start things up.
