Samsungβs tri-fold foldable finally has a name β itβs called Galaxy Z TriFold β and now itβs finally real. While it is not the first to release such form factor to the mass market (that accolade goes to HUAWEI Mate XT), Samsung took a different approach on how the smartphone is folded.
Galaxy Z TriFold

For starters, the Galaxy Z TriFold employs G-shape fold rather than the Z-shape fold found HUAWEIβs equivalent, as the left side folds first, then the right side folds over it to fully enclose into a candybar-sized footprint. Still, that amounts to a relatively thick 12.9mm profile when compared to dual-fold designs like the Galaxy Z Fold7, which in itself equals its thickness against most candybar smartphones today. Weight is also another inherent trade-off, tipping the scales at 309 grams. It maintains the same IP48 rating as the Z Fold7, meaning it can be submerged, but fine dust will slip into the device.
The cover display is just about the same as what you get in a regular smartphone, which is a 6.5-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with 2520 x 1080 resolution (21:9 aspect ratio), 2600 nits peak brightness, 1-120Hz variable refresh rate, and 100% DCI-P3 gamut coverage. When fully unfolded, you get a big 10-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display β equivalent to three 6.5-inch smartphone displays, according to Samsung β with 2160 x 1584 resolution (~4.1:3 aspect ratio), 1600 nits peak brightness, and the same 1-120Hz refresh rate plus 100% DCI-P3 gamut.
Underneath that flexible display panel comes quite a bit of engineering to make this structurally sound, namely updated dual-rail Armor FlexHinge design, reinforced foldable display layer, titanium hinge housing, high-strength aluminum alloy (dubbed Advanced Armor Aluminum) for its frame, ceramic-glass fiber-reinforced polymer for its back panel, and individual device inspections using CT scanner to minimize manufacturing variance. Besides the inward-folding design that inherently protects the foldable display, Samsung also uses an alert system to notify users of incorrect folding direction (such as on-screen messages or vibration).

The Galaxy Z TriFold is powered by the overclocked Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy paired with 16GB RAM and an option of 512GB or 1TB of internal storage. Camera includes a 200MP wide sensor coupled with 12MP ultrawide and 10MP 3x telephoto, plus two 10MP selfie cameras (one for cover and inner display); the batteries are split into three cells with a combined 5600mAh capacity, supporting 45W fast charging. Regarding software, Samsung says itβs adapted to support three apps displayed side-by-side, or be used like a traditional desktop β even featuring the full standalone DeX desktop interface with support for external displays.
Like the HUAWEIβs offering, the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold will be a rarity, for now. It says the TriFold will available in Korea starting December 12, 2025 at the price of β©3,590,400, roughly converted to around RM10,100; China, Taiwan, Singapore, the UAE and the United States will also get this device soon after its launch on the home soil. To sweeten the deal ever-so-slightly, Samsung also offers a one-time 50% discount for display repairs for its TriFold buyers, plus six-month Google AI Pro access.
Pokdepinion: One hell of an engineering feat, even if this is not the most practical device out there.
