According to details found from the latest Windows 11 test build (build 22509) by the developer of EarTrumpet, there is a new button set a new default browser. This is interesting as Microsoft made it harder to move away from Microsoft Edge browser just a couple of weeks back.
To be precise, itβs a βSet Defaultβ button located at the top of the Default Apps page. What this means is that you donβt have to change individual settings for file types as Windows 11 will handle it for you. This will generally make it much more convenient for users.
Microsoft has also confirmed that they have βstreamlined the ability for a Windows Insider to set the βdefault browserβ to apps that register for HTTP:, HTTPS:, .HTM, and .HTML.β With that being said however, keep in mind that this is only applicable for the Insider builds for now. It could take a while, or never at all, for it to be made available in public versions of the OS.
Itβs still worth noting that internal Windows 11 links still uses theΒ microsoft-edge://Β link format, which is used by the Widgets, Start menu and more. We will report more on this as soon as information becomes available so stay tuned.
Pokdepinion: Itβs a step in the right direction but Iβm sure they will still try their best to include Microsoft Edge is most of what they have / do. Otherwise, very few people will use it and it will harder to steal the market share away from the other popular browsers around.
