TrendForceβs latest report has identified Kingston as the leading third-party supplier of SSDs in the global channel market for 2024. The data shows that Kingston accounted for 36% of total channel SSD units shipped worldwide during the year, maintaining its lead over the second-largest supplier, ADATA, which held a 13% share.
Kingston Continues Channel SSD Lead Despite Market Shrinkage
Despite a 14% year-on-year decline in retail SSD sales caused by weak consumer demand and notebook attach rates reaching full saturation, Kingston maintained its position at the top of the market. TrendForce says that future growth in the SSD segment is expected to be driven by increasing adoption of AI in PCs and edge devices, which will require βhigher-capacity, high-performance SSDs.β Vendors that strengthen technical integration and channel strategies are likely to be better positioned for this shift, it further noted.
On Kingstonβs part, the storage maker said it expanded its SSD portfolio in 2024 with products targeting client, data center, industrial and external storage segments β the NV3 SSD was introduced as a budget-friendly high-capacity option for consumer markets, while the DC2000B SSD was released as a boot-drive solution for high-volume rack-mount servers in data center environments.
The company also noted its launch of refreshed design on the XS1000 External SSD (including a red edition), which received the 2024 Red Dot Award for Product Design; it also updated its Industrial SSD series with locked-BOM models built for applications such as kiosks, digital signage, robotics, point-of-sale systems and video surveillance systems.
While Kingston continues to take a commanding lead, competition for the 2nd place is quite heated, as behind ADATA, both Lexar and Kimtigo each occupy 11% of the shipment share, while Biwin follows closely behind with a 10% share β a big jump of 3% in a year, likely due to its recent debut into the consumer market. Other brands listed in the top 10 includes COLORFUL, SCY, GIGABYTE, PNY, and Transcend.
Pokdepinion: Itβs hard to say what lies next, given that AI has caused quite the supply chaos lately.
