In ASUS’s GPU nomenclature, ‘Matrix’ is reserved for the best-of-the-best – and it looks like the name will return to serve as the brand’s uber-enthusiast special. It’s even more special this time around, as the company is celebrating its 30th anniversary since it started its GPU-making business.
ROG Matrix 30th Anniversary Edition
Several images allegedly originating from ASUS’s social media pages were discovered by Videocardz, and the screenshots showed a very different card from today’s lineup. For starters, the ring surrounding one of the fans has the text embedded on it, which contained the word “MATRIX”, and “30th ANNIVERSARY”. The ‘MATRIX’ branding was also found in what looks like a rounded infinity mirror design, accompanied by the ROG logo.
It’s still hard to say how exactly the card will look like, much less figuring out its mode of cooling – while the ROG Matrix RTX 4090 was liquid-cooled, these set of images suggest that ASUS may stick to air cooling (or even hybrid cooling) for this special edition.
While not mentioned, it’s safe to assume that the silicon hidden under this special shroud design will be NVIDIA’s flagship model, the GeForce RTX 5090. In the past, the name ‘Matrix’ is only given to the top-tier gaming-based model of that generation, as evidenced by the Matrix RTX 4090, the Matrix RTX 2080 Ti, the Matrix GTX 980 Ti, and more.
Pokdepinion: I do have a feeling this design is going to be quite radical compared to most GPU designs today.
