Intel Core Ultra 9 285K Tops Out At 5.5GHz, Leaks Allege
The rumor mill on Intelβs upcoming CPUs is running at full speed: just last week, parts of the upcoming Arrow Lake (Core Ultra 200) lineup were leaked, which includes the Core Ultra 9 285K, presumed to be the direct successor of the Core i9-14900K.

Based on a series of posts from leakers including MebiuW and Golden Pig Upgrade (via Wccftech), both have provided a pretty clear picture of what the upcoming flagship processor is going to look like. MebiuW suggested that the CU9 285K will feature a 5.5GHz boost clock β 700MHz lower than the Core i9-14900KS. As a result, improvements in single-core performance will be fairly limited, as the leaker alleges that the performance uplift over the current flagship will not exceed 12%.
The leaker has also pointed out that Intelβs overly aggressive clock speed ratings, which were raised as much as 15% across three generations since Alder Lake (12th Gen), will cause potential issues in the future β weβve seen signs of that recently as Team Blueβs chip has seen various stability issues due to overly aggressive power profiles.
Meanwhile, Golden Pig Upgrade (via Videocardz) has provided other aspects of the leak surrounding the upcoming lineup. Intel will not feature βCore Ultra 3β on both laptop and desktop SKUs, although itβs unclear from the leaker if Intel will continue to sell existing Core i3 desktop chips on its low-end lineup, or if the company may do the same as it did to the laptop chips by rebranding them as βCore 3β models. In any case, itβs unlikely to feature the new LGA1851 socket that Arrow Lake will use as part of the Intel 800 series motherboards.
Pokdepinion: Now itβs the matter of IPC improvements β Meteor Lake didnβt impress me, though.Β
