Intel βBartlett Lakeβ To Slot Below Arrow Lake, Extending LGA1700βs Lifespan
It looks like time is not quite over yet for Intelβs LGA1700 platforms, which were introduced in 2020. Many expect the platform to be phased out by now (given Intelβs track record hasnβt been great when it comes to platform longevity), but surprisingly Intel may be introducing a new generation of chips for this socket beyond the 14th Gen βRaptor Lake Refreshβ lineup.
RedGamingTech reported that the new generation, codenamed βBartlett Lakeβ, will act as a budget lineup to slot below Arrow Lake, which is expected to be succeeding the current 14th Gen processors. This enables the LGA1700 platforms, which include Intel 600 and 700 series motherboards, to maintain up to 4 years of active support. By comparison, AMDβs venerable Socket AM4 still has new SKUs released in 2024, 7 years after its initial release.
It is said that Bartlett Lake will be based on updated Raptor Lake silicon, meaning this could be a re-refresh of the 14th Gen that we have today. Granted, Team Blue may have dedicated most of its engineering efforts to developing Arrow Lake, so donβt expect Bartlett Lake to be particularly powerful β though there has been no information on what SKUs this lineup may consist of.
Since it is effectively going to be a minor update, does this mean Intel may continue naming Bartlett Lake as Intel Core i3/5/7/9 or renaming it as Core 3/5/7/9 instead? Nothing has been known so far, but there has been precedent in the case of laptop chips, where Raptor Lake gets repackaged as Core 3/5 on budget laptops.
