Pricey iPhones due to Samsung OLED panels; may not even feature Touch ID
The iPhone 8 may not be due until its launch in three daysβ time but the interwebs are awash with rumors. Among which are that the iPhone will command a much higher price tag than previous iPhones. Coming in $999 (~RM4195.90), it will definitely be a new benchmark in pricing for iPhones.
The Β price tag is reportedly due to Samsung charging around $120-$130 for each unit of their OLED panels, more than double of the $45-$55 per unit that the previous generationβs iPhoneβs LCD panels cost.
Also due to their jump to OLED display technology, Apple is expected to skip Touch ID on the iPhone Edition, as the iPhone 8 may be called. KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the under-display fingerprint sensors previously rumoredΒ does not offer satisfactory performance.
We will be updating you guys about the iPhone Edition (or the iPhone 8) when it is announced on 12th September, so stay tuned for official news!

Pokdepinion: $999 is an amount I am unwilling to part with for a smartphone. However the prices of flagship devices have gradually crept up over the years, with the Note 8 coming in at $929, so there must be people who donβt mind such lofty prices.
