You Can Now Run Android on iPhone and Have the Best of Both Worlds
If you were choosing a smartphone, then I’m sure you have come across the thought of either getting an Android smartphone or an iPhone. Now, you can actually run Android on iPhone and have the best of both worlds…somewhat. This was made possible thanks to Project Sandcastle.
Running Android on iPhone with Project Sandcastle
Previously, we’ve heard of jailbreaking an iPhone using an Android smartphone. Now, you can actually run Android on iPhone with the help of Project Sandcastle. The project was built on years of development and it is currently in beta stage. Their goal is to make it available to as many iPhones as possible but it only works on one model at the moment. It’s still a good start nonetheless.
Project Sandcastle is currently only working on the iPhone 7 and 7+. Even so, there are still quite a few limitations to it. The GPU, audio output, cellular modem, Bluetooth, and camera do not work. There are also issues with performance and the battery life, which further adds to the problem. Moreover, system storage is just read-only for now due to the experimental APFS support. Despite all of this, it was a miracle that they manage to get it up and running to begin with, so it will take some time to work out the kinks.
It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Android on iPhone as we’ve seen similar efforts in 2010 that was working on the iPhone 2G. Some of the people behind Project Sandcastle happens to be from that same old project.
If you’re actually planning to run Android on iPhone, we may still be some ways way from having a stable experience. However, it is definitely possible and we just need to be a bit patient for it.
