Major Staff Layoffs in Capcom Vancouver

Capcom Vancouver, the studio most notably known for theΒ DeadΒ RisingΒ series, has been hit by layoffs. This is the statement that Capcom has provided:
Capcom Vancouver has undergone a restructure which has impacted approximately 30 percent of the studio, as part of its regular periodic assessment of upcoming projects and overall studio goals. The team is continuing to work to support the recent release of Puzzle Fighter for mobile and is dedication to it flagship Dead Rising series.
The statement provided toΒ IGNΒ follows a report byΒ KotakuΒ indicating βaround 50 people were laid off.β Moreover, it also stated that the Vancouver studio has cut the scope on its nextΒ Dead RisingΒ game, as well as canceled an unannounced project. We have no clue what this unannounced project actually is but I suppose weβll never be able to know now, or rather itβs pointless to bother with it.
Capcom Vancouver was formerly known as Blue Castle Games, the makers of the arcade-style baseball gameΒ The Bigs. After being acquired by Capcom in 2010, the studio is most notably known for its work on theΒ DeadΒ RisingΒ franchise beginning withΒ DeadΒ RisingΒ 2Β .
DeadΒ RisingΒ 4Β was launched for the Xbox One and PC in 2016. It then released for the PlayStation 4 last December. If youβre wondering which one is it, itβs called Dead Rising 4: Frankβs Big Package (thatβs what she said).
Pokdepinion: Well, this is quite normal in the videogame industry, especially if youβre under the banner of a giant company. We can only hope that the ones that got laid off will be able to pick themselves up again and keep pressing forward.
