Malaysian developer Weyrdworks has reworked its desktop pet game Weyrdlets into a new version β aptly named Weyrdlets 2.0 β which, aside from new features, has been transitioned from a free-to-play βfreemiumβ model to a paid release, removing in-app purchases in the process.
Weyrdlets 2.0 Transitions To Paid Model

Now, while this is a huge change, thereβs good news for existing players: players who previously downloaded the game for free will retain permanent access, including all progression and owned items. In its announcement post, Weyrdworks said players βactuallyΒ prefer paid gamesΒ over free-to-play, especially on Steam,β which isnβt surprising to see considering the aggressive tactics freemium games have employed in the past to drive recurring purchases. All being said, DLCs will continued to be offered βas meaningful expansions,Β notΒ pay-to-win content.β
As a result of this transition, all in-game purchases have been removed altogether for a more straightforward pay-once affair. By extension, the in-game premium shop is gone, with all items now obtainable through gameplay progression. What used to be seasonal content is also now permanently available so long as you grind for it using in-game currencies.
Speaking of which, Jellystars β previously a premium currency β is now a secondary currency that can be earned in-game, and players who previously paid for it will get to keep them as-is; as such, the in-game economy is also reworked. The new egg fragment system also replaces some of Jellystarsβ role where players can now unlock pets and mini-pets through daily tasks and milestones.

Weyrdlets 2.0 also introduces a new multiplayer mode known as Worble, where players can participate in obstacle-based race (including with your friends), with new maps provided every week. Additional features include a photo mode, a desktop roaming mode, additional languages (Simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean), plus UI updates.
Weyrdlets 2.0 is now available on Steam at a listed price of just RM19.50, and at the time of this writing, thereβs a sale going on that cuts the price further down to just RM15.60, which is offered until 26 March. Get it for cheap while you can!
