We are beginning to see new leaks emerge in regards to various chipmakers’ upcoming plans, and for this one, we’re looking at AMD’s next-gen, Zen 6-based β€œOlympic Ridge” desktop processors. Based on various sources, the chipmaker will introduce the new lineup in 2027 at the earliest, and there will be at least seven core configurations available, ranging from 6 to 24 cores per chip.

AMD Zen 6 Coming 2027?

AMD Zen 6 Desktop "Olympic Ridge" Rumored To Launch In 2027 With Seven Core Configurations

The first part of the leak comes courtesy of Benchlife, which stated (translated): β€œWe can confirm that we will not see the next generation of Ryzen processors with the Zen 6 processor architecture in 2026.” The publication noted that 2027 will be the earliest we will see the new lineup, but exactly when is still anyone’s guess; that being said, it will continue to use Socket AM5, and that means existing motherboards will likely be able to perform a drop-in upgrade.

The second part of this leak (from HXL on X/Twitter) pertains the specific core configurations that AMD will split its lineup into. Up until this point, the chipmaker offers 6, 8, 12, and 16-core configurations for the past few generations; owing to the new 12-core CCD, the Olympic Ridge lineup will be able to extend this to a 24-core model, as well as adding two new core configurations in 10-core and 20-core variants. Effectively, this means AMD can spawn 6, 8, 10, and 12-core models from a single CCD, while dual-CCD models will be split into 16, 20, and 24-core versions.

Since we’re still quite early on the timeline, there’s no word on what the new generation of chips will be officially called. Ryzen 10000 might be one too many numbers for some, so it might be high time for AMD to switch up its naming system again. On the laptop side of things, the chipmaker has already adopted the three-digit naming system (and Intel has already done so), and we do wonder if this is where the desktop naming is heading next.
