The effects of memory shortage is far-reaching: NVIDIA, being the largest consumer GPU vendor by a large margin, is being reported to reduce its production of RTX 50 series GPUs due to the said shortage. Sources in Chinese forum Board Channels (via Benchlife) claims that supply will be substantially reduced come next year.

No RAM, No RTX 50 GPUs

NVIDIA Reported To Reduce RTX 50 GPU Supply In 2026 Due To RAM Shortage

While the user erred on the side of caution by saying this information is β€œunconfirmed,” the claim alleges that the GPU production output in the first half of 2026 will reduce by 30-40% when compared to the first half of 2025, which is the period when RTX 50 series was first launched. Faced with limited memory supply, companies usually deal with this in two ways – raise prices, or reduce inventory. NVIDIA opted for the latter, if this information is anything to go by.

Based on sources among the AIB partners, Benchlife reported that mid-range RTX 50 models like the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5060 Ti 16GB will be the most impacted, both of which are considered among the most affordable options from the brand today if you want something over 8GB of VRAM, which is pretty important given how much VRAM is used by games these days.

This shortage has put doubts on even the RTX 50 SUPER series, which requires the new 3GB GDDR7 modules in exchange for 50% increase in VRAM capacity over their non-SUPER counterparts. Since AI companies are getting too busy gobbling up the planet’s memory supply, we don’t even know if the SUPER series will stick to whatever launch timeline NVIDIA has set internally at this rate.
