Razer has revived the Boomslang nameplate for its new Razer Boomslang 20th Anniversary Edition mouse, of which the original model bearing this name was first introduced back in 1999, regarded as the very first gaming mouse in a time where gaming peripheral wasn’t even a thing, let alone an industry as big as it is today.

But hang on, where did the β€œ20th Anniversary” bit came from? Turns out, that’s intended for celebrating the now two-decades-old Razer Inc. as a company, despite the brand technically having a longer age than that. Razer as a company was established back in 2005 by Min-Liang Tan and Robert Krakoff, after acquiring the Razer nameplate from its predecessor company, kΓ€rna LLC (which produced the original Boomslang mouse, but soon went bankrupt).

This limited-edition Razer Boomslang is a modern remake of the original, which retains its iconic shape that you won’t see in modern mice given years of optimizations owing to esports. While the shape is like the original, its internals are anything but – think wireless connectivity, Razer’s Focus Pro 45K Gen-2 optical sensor, 8000Hz polling rate, Gen-4 optical mouse switches, docking-based wireless charging (charging dock included), and Razer Chroma RGB lighting. There’s even PU leather wrapped on the primary buttons and the body, which you don’t see anywhere else.

Razer confirmed that the production run of the Razer Boomslang 20th Anniversary Edition will be capped at 1,337 units globally (can’t resist making another β€˜leet’ reference, can it?). It has stopped short of announcing pricing and availability, though these information are expected to be provided at a later date.

Pokdepinion: This is definitely collector’s item.
