Samsung Launches Its Phone App To Windows, Comes With Apple-Like Continuity Feature
Samsung as a smartphone maker is going after Apple when it comes to feature sets, and it aims to gain a new feature that mimics the iPhone’s “Continuity” feature that ensures a seamless connection between various devices, through the Phone app designed for Windows platforms (as discovered on Reddit).
Before you get too excited, however, keep in mind that the smartphone maker is designing this app only for the upcoming “Galaxy Book4 and later Intel-based PCs” – although it’s not fully clear if the company may expand support to all Windows laptops altogether. We think this app may be based on the Intel Unison app, hence the restrictions on processors. The app doesn’t run if you install it on AMD-based PCs, for example.
It’s no surprise that Samsung wants to keep its users occupied within its ecosystem, something that most tech companies envision, but only Apple is capable of executing it due to how vertically integrated it is. Of course, that doesn’t exactly mean good news for consumers as the best features get locked behind unless you buy their devices altogether.
For the rest of us in the Windows realm, Microsoft’s Phone Link app already supports calling through laptops when an active connection is made over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. In that sense, there don’t seem to be many features that set Samsung’s solution apart, but we’ll know if the company is willing to provide more details in due course.
