Some manufacturers already have this feature, but now stock Android will finally have it too.

XDA’s Mishaal Rahman has found and enabled a hidden feature behind Android 14’s Preview 1 release, called β€˜App Cloning’. Most users should be at least familiar with how this feature works, but if not, here’s a summary:

Much like what it says in the name, app cloning allows user to essentially create a separate copy of the same app to allow multiple, simultaneous account logins without the need to switch or re-entering account credentials. This is helpful for those who have two accounts at once and needs to have active notifications on both – whereas the traditional account-switching method often isn’t capable of sending notifications once logged out.

As the Preview 1 release is still fresh from the oven (it’s only released few days ago), some of the feature are still half-baked (pardon the pun). First of all, enabling this feature in the first place isn’t straightforward, as the writer said enabling it requires some modification to β€˜flags’ (settings intended for developers) in order for this to work. The feature may not eventually end up in the final Android 14 release, but it’s a start at least.

Pokdepinion: Google is probably more than 5 years late (my Samsung from 2018 had this feature), but better late than never I guess?
