HTC Expected to Launch Standalone VR Headset Rivaling Meta Quest
To combat against the Meta Quest 2 and have a more consumer-friendly solution, HTC is expected to launch a new standalone VR headset soon.
New HTC VR Headset?
HTC is set to unveil a new standalone virtual reality (VR) headset at the CES tech conference on January 5, 2023. While the company has not yet revealed the price of the device, HTCβs Global Head of Product Shen Ye told The Verge that it will be more expensive than competitors due to privacy protections that prevent third parties from accessing data from the headsetβs cameras.
HTC has previously released the premium Vive Focus 3, which costs USD $1,300, and the more affordable Vive Cosmos at USD $699. Compared to the Meta Quest 2βs price of USD $399, itβs still a pricey VR headset.
HTCβs upcoming VR headset will have outward cameras that allow for a color feed of the userβs surroundings for βmixed-reality experiencesβ according to The Verge. This refers to augmented reality-like experiences where game graphics are added to real-life environments.
The headset will also have privacy protections in place, which means it will likely be more expensive than the companyβs previous VR headset, the Vive Cosmos, which costs $699. The headsetβs features and price are expected to be announced at CES early next month on 5th January 2023.
Pokdepinion: I donβt mind paying if itβs truly worth the money. Convenience is one thing but at the same time, I hope itβs still an immersive VR experience. Otherwise, whatβs the point?
