The Legend of Zelda Majoraβs Mask Easter Egg Revealed 21 Years After Release
The Legend of Zelda Majoraβs Mask was first launched on 27th April 2000. Fast forward 21 years later and a new easter egg was discovered, and itβs quite an interesting one. Hereβs what went down.
The Legend of Zelda Majoraβs Mask New Easter Egg
So last night I discovered that the position of the stars in the sky in Majoraβs Mask is randomized based off ofβ¦ the playerβs file name?! Huge thanks to Tharo for helping on this function as well. pic.twitter.com/aIqsZv9qPk

3D artist and programmer Zel recently discovered that the sky in The Legend of Zelda Majoraβs Mask is actually unique for each player. Apparently, the position of the stars in the sky will differ depending on the playerβs save file name.
He shared a screenshot on Twitter showing how the 8 characters for the file name will influence the position of the stars in the sky. This is pretty cool given that a game from two decades ago is capable of giving a view that is unique to them. As for how many different star arrangements you can get, itβs said to be quite a lot of variations.
As for why the developers opted to do this instead of a set skybox is unknown at this point in time. For those of you who arenβt aware, The Legend of Zelda Majoraβs Mask was launched on 27th April 2000 for the Nintendo 64. Itβs the sixth main installment of the popular franchise and the sequel to Ocarina of Time, which is also launched on the same platform.
In case you were wondering, this easter egg is not available in the 3DS re-release of The Legend of Zelda Majoraβs Mask. If you want to see it for yourself, you need to play the original Nintendo 64 version of the game.
Pokdepinion: This is a pretty cool easter egg, especially considering that not many games today have that kind of minute detail being put in by the developers. It also makes me think that there are a lot more things we may have missed with older games.
