Google has finally lifted the lid off their latest Pixel series of smartphones with the Pixel 6 and the larger Pixel 6 Pro, dropping the usual XL name. The company also dropped a lot more information on their new custom chip which Google calls the Google Tensor chip.

The new Pixel 6 series will feature a brand-new overall design language when compared to the previous Pixel phones. In a new blog post, Google explains that the new design will β€œredefine what it means to be a Pixel”. The new Pixel devices will feature an industrial design with the 6 coming with a matte aluminium finish while the Pro will be coming with a light polished aluminium frame.

Both the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will come in three different colour variants and features a unique camera bump, or as Google calls it, a β€œcamera bar”. There isn’t much information on the camera setup at the moment, but we know that both Pixel devices will come with a triple camera setup. The Pro version will feature a telephoto lens with up to 4x optical zoom while the normal Pixel 6 won’t.

The new Google Tensor custom SoC powering both the Pixel devices will feature AI and Machine Learning at its core. The new Google Tensor chip is said to be designed β€œto make Pixel even more capable”. The Tensor chip will feature more enhanced hardware security as it comes with a new security core and Titan M2. The new chip will also see a β€œtransformed experience” for the new Pixel series’ camera, speech recognition as well as β€œmany other Pixel 6 features”.

The Pixel 6 series will also come with Android 12 out of the box and the new Material You style that the company introduced during their last Google I/O event.

Google says that the new Pixel smartphones will launch sometime this fall though a specific was not mentioned. For more information, head over to the official website right here.

Pokdepinion: I haven’t been excited for a Pixel device since maybe the Pixel 2 series. Too bad the phones won’t be officially available here in Malaysia because if they were I would definitely go for them.
