Ninja Thinks Better Parenting Needed To Combat Online Toxicity
The internet can be a toxic place to be in, thereβs no quarrels about that. Famous streamer Ninja or his real name Tyler Blevins has said that itβs important for parents to play a part in creating a better online environment.
Ninja thinks parenting as the way to combat online toxicity
In a recent interview with The New York Times, the Twitch streamer was asked on whether he could do something about the negativity that surrounds the internet such as racism and toxicity. Blevins says that it isnβt his responsibility to fix the issue and suggest that parents should do more.
βBut it all comes down to parenting. You want to know who your kid is? Listen to him when heβs playing video games when he thinks youβre notβ says Ninja.
He adds that itβs not his responsibility when it comes to educating the younger generation when it comes to matters such as racism. He adds βHow does a white kid know he has white privilege if his parents never teach him or donβt talk about racism? If theyβre gaming and their first interaction with racism is one of their friends saying the N-word and they have no idea what it is β what if it was on my stream? Is it my job to have this conversation with this kid?β.
Talking about these things is a big no, especially on a platform like Twitch. If found caught, you could even get your account banned, even if you didnβt even say anything about them (your viewers instead).
Pokdepinion: I can see his point that itβs not his responsibility.. but seeing how huge his popularity is, I canβt help but feel that he could do something about the matter too, even how small of an act it is. We all should come together to combat online toxicity.Β
