Security Specialist Easily Guessed Donald Trumpβs Twitter Password
It seems that Donald Trump has a thing for Twitter as they seem inseparable. This time, it appears that his Twitter account was allegedly hacked by a Dutch security researcher whoβs name is Victor Gevers.
Donald Trumpβs Twitter hacked by security researcher
Victor, who happens to be a researcher at GDI Foundation and the Dutch Institute for Vulnerability Disclosure, attempted to guess Trumpβs password on Twitter. It didnβt take long to crack the presidentβs account however as Victor managed to guess it on his fifth attempt which apparently was βmaga2020β.
Surprisingly, according to Victor, the presidentβs account isnβt backed up by two-factor authentication, which made Victorβs attempt to access his account a breeze.
If you think it was a one-off thing, well think again. It appears that Victor did the same act back in 2016 where he managed to get a hold of Trumpβs password which was βyourefiredβ, a phrase that Trump is famous for in βThe Apprenticeβ.
After the incident, Victor has said that the presidentβs account have since change passwords (why are we not surprised?). On the matter, hereβs what Twitter had to say:
Weβve seen no evidence to corroborate this claim, including from the article published in the Netherlands today. We proactively implemented account security measures for a designated group of high-profile, election-related Twitter accounts in the United States, including federal branches of government.
Ian Plunkett, Twitter spokesperson
Pokdepinion: It blows my mind on how a presidentβs official account on social media isnβt protected by two-step verification authentication.. Itβs not like youβre some random person..
