One would expect, from NVIDIA’s usual GPU release cycle in the past few years, that the company will eventually update its current Blackwell-based GeForce RTX 50 series with the mid-cycle SUPER variants by early 2026. It has been further rumored that the lineup will get a big VRAM boost thanks to 3GB GDDR7 modules, but turns out the situation has become muddier than expected.
RTX 50 SUPER Series Now “Delayed” To Q3 2026
Originally, Uniko’s Hardware reported that NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 50 SUPER series was supposedly scrapped due to the shortage of 3GB GDDR7 memory modules (if true, you could thank AI’s insane appetite for memory modules for that one), which is a key upgrade for the supposed SUPER-fied models in the form of RTX 5080 SUPER, RTX 5070 Ti SUPER, and the RTX 5070 SUPER. Per leaker Kopite7kimi’s original specs leak several months ago, all three models will get a 50% increase in memory capacity.
Another well-known GPU leaker MEGAsizeGPU chimed in, claiming that NVIDIA simply postpones the launch from the last known projected date of Q1 2026, to half a year later in Q3 2026. Of course, that means the RTX 60 series will be pushed back as well, and it looks like Team Green is in no hurry given the lack of competition and the whole company being almost entirely preoccupied with AI-related business right now.
HKEPC and Benchlife, both with sources familiar with the matter, has provided similar conclusions. The former claimed that NVIDIA “told [AIB] partners that it didn’t cancel the RTX 50 SUPER series plans,” only postponing the lineup’s launch to Q3 2026. Meanwhile, the latter asserted that, as of this November, no AIB has received any design kits of the said lineup, and it wasn’t even being clearly discussed to begin with.
It’s safe to say that you won’t be expecting RTX 50 SUPER cards come this January, and even the supposed Q3 2026 launch date is far from a certainty for now. There’s the off chance that AI’s insatiable demand for GPUs and VRAMs will make things all the worse for PC gamers, so don’t hold your breath if you’re hoping to get a big VRAM upgrade from the GeForce’s side.
