Leaked AMD Documents Reveal Strix Point And Strix Halo APU Specs

More leaks from AMD have emerged – this time around, one leaker named @Izzukias on X (Twitter) has leaked what is reportedly a 114-page document that is allegedly an official document from AMD itself. The leaker has since disabled/deleted the account, but Hong Kong outlet HKEPC has picked it up and published the screenshot of the leaked document.

Assuming this document is official, this will further confirm the specs of AMD’s high-end “Strix Point” and the much-anticipated “Strix Halo” APU. Strix Point was said to feature up to 12 cores – 4 full-size Zen5 cores plus 8 Zen5c cores, to be exact – paired with up to 24MB of total L3 cache, and an onboard GPU that features 8 WGPs (16 CUs). It’ll feature the XDNA2 NPU with 50 TOPS of compute performance. This corroborated the leak from August last year by Golden Pig Upgrade (金猪升级包).

Meanwhile, Strix Halo is the more exciting part: this mysterious APU was previously leaked as early as April 2023 and was recently speculated with potential specs. The document has largely confirmed both – it’ll feature 16 Zen5 cores split into two CCDs, a total of 64MB combined L3 cache, onboard RDNA3.5 GPU with 20 WGPs (40 CUs) with 32MB MALL (memory attached last level) Cache, 256-bit LPDDR5X RAM (though speed turns out to be slightly slower), and a more powerful NPU that is rated for up to 60 TOPS, higher than previous leaks’ claims.

HKEPC also claimed that one Taiwanese OEM has alleged Strix Halo’s GPU is as powerful as the RTX 4060 Laptop GPU – as for if this chip will find its way into lightweight gaming laptops, we’ll have to see. It has further noted the TDP for both chip variants, with the Strix Point set to target between 45W to 65W; meanwhile, the larger Strix Halo chip is targeting 70W by default, although OEMs are allowed to crank it up to 130W for laptops with more robust cooling systems.

It’s safe to say that we’re getting ever closer to the official launch of these chips, which will be expected later this year. However, AMD will be attending Computex this June – expect the chipmaker to provide the first details of these upcoming laptop APUs.
