The Samsung Galaxy A55 comes in your standard, minimalist white box that looks pretty much the same as previous Galaxy A devices. Just like last year, the box is thin and at this point, practically everyone knows why. If not, you will find out in just a bit.

Samsung Galaxy A55 First Impressions
At first glance, the Samsung Galaxy A55 doesn’t look much different from its predecessor, the A54. That is until you realize two key details; the size and its chassis. This one is slightly bigger than its predecessor as the display has also become bigger, but more on that in a bit. It has also improved in its build quality as it moved from a plastic chassis to an aluminum one, making it more sturdy and feel more premium. It’s also more comfortable to hold, albeit slightly odd looking, thanks to the Key Island design on the sides. On the rear, it is glass but it’s no ordinary glass as it’s Gorilla Glass, bolstering up its durability factor.

Moving over to the front and you get a 6.6-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display with 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. It’s basically the same as before, except larger as its predecessor was set at 6.4 inches. One thing that surprised me is the bump from Gorilla Glass 5 to Gorilla Glass Victus+. Sure, it’s not Victus 2 nor the Gorilla Armor, something the S24 series is using, but it’s still a significant improvement nonetheless, especially in sub-RM2K midrange smartphone.
It’s powered by the new Exynos 1480, a 4nm SoC which is a slight upgrade from the Exynos 1380 in terms of CPU power but a notable upgrade in GPU as it now uses the AMD RDNA 2-based Xclipse 530 GPU. This is all powered by a healthy 5,000mAh battery which should keep you going for at least a whole day, but keep in mind that it only supports charging speeds of up to 25W, which is rather low by today’s standards. We will find out exactly how long the battery life is once we’ve done benchmarking it.
It’s worth noting that Samsung also introduced Knox Vault to the Galaxy A series for the first time, providing hardware-based security which has been a mainstay for the company’s flagship devices. Essentially, Knox Vault is operated in isolation from the main system’s processor and memory, which (ideally) reduces the attack surfaces via exploits. To further strengthen the security, the optional Auto Blocker feature can block unknown apps, commands, as well as executions from USB connections.
