WhatsApp Introduces Discord-Like Voice Chats For Large Groups
The latest update from Metaβs messaging app, WhatsApp, comes in the form of voice chat. Functionally, itβs similar to Discordβs voice channels β people can silently join and leave the call, accompanied by a text-based chat alongside for those who canβt talk at the same time.
WhatsAppβs implementation will feature an βin-chat bubbleβ in the group chatβs interface that users can tap to instantly join. The key difference of this feature compared to a normal group call, is βless disruptiveβ, according to the developers. During the call, the controls will remain on top of the chat with immediate access to mute or hang-up buttons, and the chat is also available if text input is preferred.
The developers noted that this feature will begin rollout globally to large groups, with those larger than 33 members getting priority access.
Pokdepinion: I can see this being useful in large events.
