Intel Confirms 14th Gen Is End Of The Road For βCore iβ Branding
As Intel has just announced and launched the 14th Gen βRaptor Lake Refreshβ desktop processors earlier this week, the writing is on the wall that Core i3/i5/i7/i9 branding, which started all the way back in 2008, is history. The company recently has confirmed that 14th Gen will be the very last family of processors to bear this name, as the company is transitioning its brand to Core (Ultra) starting with Meteor Lake processors.
It all started from earlier this year when the name βCore Ultra 5 1003Hβ surfaced in the Ashes of the Singularity benchmark database. Intelβs Director of Global Communications, Bernard Fernandes has confirmed that the company is indeed switching names, and it was confirmed a month later, officially introducing the beginning of the new Core (and Core Ultra) naming.
In an FAQ section on Intelβs website, the company has explicitly confirmed that βRaptor Lake Refresh will be the last processor family to use the old brand scheme [β¦] the new brand scheme with Intel Core/Core Ultra will begin with Meteor Lake.β As reported earlier, Intel may be launching laptop versions of the Raptor Lake Refresh family in early next year β which should more or less line up with Meteor Lakeβs launch (that is officially confirmed to be on December this year).
As for Core Ultra branding itself, Intel has yet to clarify on what differs between Core and Core Ultra branding. One possibly theory is to take a similar approach as AMD Ryzen APUs in 7000 series moving forward β in order to fit more than two architectures into the same βgenerationβ, the Core Ultra may be reserved to that yearβs leading-edge architecture, while preceding architecture gets grandfathered βCoreβ branding instead (AMD uses numbering system, indicating Ryzenβs architectural generation for this approach).

Pokdepinion: I suppose the five-digit numbers arenβt really working anymore so itβs time for a reset on their part.Β
