Some MSI Motherboards BSODs Allegedly Due To Windows Update, Microsoft Disagrees
Recently, a subset of MSIβs Intel motherboards (600/700 series) has experienced a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) error that reads: βUNSUPPORTED_PROCESSORβ. Users traced back the cause of the issue being the erroneous update for Windows 11, KB5029351, being the culprit that causes the crash. However, Microsoftβs investigations concluded that the root cause is not be the update itself.
βAfter investigating these reports, we have found that the βUNSUPPORTED_PROCESSORβ error was not caused by issues in KB5029351 and is limited to a specific subset of processors,β according to Microsoft, in a support document. βWe are collaborating with device manufacturers (OEMs) and will temporarily mitigate this issue by not offeringΒ KB5029351 to Windows devices that might be affected by this issue. If you still experience this issue, please contact your deviceβs processor manufacturer.β
MSI on their side did recommend two options: one is to simply wait for Windows to detect something is wrong and uninstalls the offending update to recover back to the normal state, or, should that option fail β manually revert to previous versions of the BIOS by using the USB re-flash method, and uninstall KB5029351 manually.
No further mitigations has been published on either parties at this writing β however, do expect the fix to come in the form of new BIOS update as this likely is an issue that caused conflicts with the Windows Update intended for all Windows 11 systems.
